Visit Dunnottar Castle

Set in what can only be described as a stunningly dramatic area on the Aberdeenshire coastline and is steeped in history. This stunning location provides amazing photo opportunities too.

The land on which this 14th Century castle stands has seen the Picts, Vikings, William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots and James VI visit – among many, many other events occurring here. It truly is a historical beacon positioned on a rock formed 440 million years ago.

The castle is approximately 15 minutes when walking from Stonehaven and is well sign posted.  Dogs are welcome to the castle so long as they remain on a lead. There is a small car park at the castle, which is located just off the A92, Montrose Road. 

Dunnottar Castle Opening Times:

Summer season - 1st April to 30th Sept, 9am to 6pm every day with the last entry at 5.30pm.

Winter season - 1st October to 31st March, 10am to 5pm or 30 mins before sunset, whichever is sooner. Please note, on days of bad weather the castle can be closed, so please visit the website to check prior to your visit.

Visit the Marine Hotel

Visit Stonehaven Golf Course

If you're a keen golfer and want to play in a stunning setting, visit Stonehaven Golf Club which is set in the most beautiful cliff side location with excellent views across the town and harbour of Stonehaven. This exceptional golf course is over 125 years old and was opened on Friday, 13th April 1888.

Visit Stonehaven Open Air Swimming Pool

This is a huge Olympic sized swimming pool with clean sea water and a lovely warm temperature of 29oC.

Along with many attractions in Stonehaven steeped in local history, the pool opened on 4th June 1934.

There is plenty of free parking, a cafe and an icecream parlour all very close to the pool.
